MSSI researchers and associates joined regional and global leaders at the Blue Pacific to Glasgow Forum, hosted on 6 October by The Climate Reality Project - Australia and Pacific and Hon Al Gore. Leading Pacific voices at the Forum raised the call across Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific—and the world—for ambitious climate commitments at the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) starting in Glasgow this week.

Prof Don Henry AM, Melbourne Enterprise Professor of Environmentalism at MSSI, was the MC for the Forum and moderator of a governmental session. A civil society session at the Forum was moderated by Hon Dr Janine Felson, Research Fellow at MSSI, Ambassador of Belize, and Advisor to the Alliance of Small Island States and the Caribbean Community. Prof Henry and Dr Felson will both be part of negotiations and high-level discussions at COP26 over the next fortnight.

The Forum featured Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum, Hon Henry Puna; and Fiji Prime Minister and Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum, Hon Frank Bainimarama; among other prominent government and civil society leaders. Speakers explored the needed outcomes from the critical COP26 negotiations to secure a safe and prosperous climate.

Pacific leaders called for the world to take a stand at COP26, asking that developed countries cut emissions by at least 50% by 2030 and mobilise significant international finance to ensure a climate-safe future.
